Crown and bridge | post-treatment advice

Anesthesia

The anesthesia will disappear completely within 2 to 3 hours after treatment. Avoid chewing on the treated side before the anesthesia wears off or you may bite your cheek and hurt yourself.

Medication

To minimize postoperative sensitivity, we suggest Ibuprofen (Motrin or Advil). It decreases the sensitivity often caused by a deep restoration or by the use of the laser which slightly exposes the circumference of the tooth. The gum will heal quickly and the sensitivity will fade within a few days.

Adaptation

It will take a little time to adapt to the new anatomy of the teeth. It should feel normal after a few days.

Sensitivity

Feeling some discomfort is normal. During the first 7 to 14 days, there is the possibility of sensitivity to cold, hot and chewing. A telephone follow-up will be done in the coming days to ensure that everything is going well and to answer any questions you may have.

Oral hygiene care

It is important to maintain meticulous hygiene care. It is essential to thoroughly brush and floss each day to prevent dental caries from occurring.

Note

Some people believe that teeth with a crown no longer require dental cleaning since they are now completely covered … FALSE. The junction between the tooth and the crown is as susceptible to tooth decay as a healthy tooth. It is therefore important to pay close attention to this location.
